Sometimes a face-cleansing wash just isn’t enough. Those who suffer from complex or stubborn skin conditions know that it takes more than a daily regime to relieve these ailments and that sometimes further treatment is necessary. If you’ve been looking for a solution to fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores or several other ailments, the microneedling technique offered by our dermaroller/dermapen treatment might be just what you need.
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is used to rejuvenate tired, sagging or damaged skin. A device called a dermapen, which house several very fine needles, is used to ever so slightly pierce the skin. These ‘micro-injuries’ lead the skin to heal itself by promoting the growth of collagen and elastin – elements essential to youthful skin and which tend to decline as we skin. This unique process means that microneedling can be used to treat several common skin conditions, such as:
Acne scarring
The healing process that our dermaroller treatment instigates can be great for relieving two types of acne scarring: pitted acne scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).
Pitted acne scars can be caused by particularly aggressive bouts of acne that have damaged essential skin fibres, including collagen. These fibres are essential for keeping the skin firm and, when the skin heals without the necessary amount, depressions can be left in the skin. The controlled wounds caused by the microneedling treatment stimulate the process of fresh collagen and skin cells, helping to re-level the skin and smooth acne scars.
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation happens when an area of skin is damaged and becomes inflamed. This inflammation causes irregular pigmentation, leading to red, pink, brown or purple blotches on the skin where blemishes have healed. Microneedling helps relieve this uneven skin tone by damaging the top layer of tissue and forcing new skin cells to take their place.
Enlarged pores
Enlarged pores can occur after a particularly bad bout of acne in which your pores have been stretched by particularly large spots or blemishes, causing them to become larger and more visible. Enlarged pores can also occur if you have interrupted the healing process by picking at your spots. Our dermaroller treatment relieves enlarged pores by damaging the top layer of skin and causing it to shed, with collagen and cell production then stimulated to replace this lost layer. The result is skin with less noticeable pores.
Fine lines and wrinkles
The collagen levels in our skin reduce as part of the natural ageing process. Unfortunately, this leads to it becoming thinner, looser and generally more lined and wrinkled. Collagen production, which is usually dormant in older faces, is stimulated by microneedling, adding structure and firmness to the skin and evening out fine lines and wrinkles.
Microneedling is an incredibly versatile treatment. As well as skin conditions, it can also be used to rejuvenate tired or dull skin and bring the vitality back to your face. Contact Skin Solutions Clinic today to find out how our Dermaroller treatment might be able to help you.
