Here at Skin Solutions Clinic, we are feeling more optimistic as time goes on, and we hope you are too. This blog will be solely based on mental health coming out of lockdown. We feel it is essential to prioritise mental health, especially since this year has been tough on every single one of us.
Not only has this lockdown had an affect on our emotional wellbeing, it has caused a lot more self image disorientation and ‘so called flaws’ to be focused on. With social media in today’s society, it’s hard to be happy with what you have. Over the years, we follow trends within aesthetics and beauty and also fashion, so how are we ever going to be everything at once? Kate Moss, 90’s supermodel, was the idyllic body type, in contrast to Kim Kardashion, who now is someone many people aspire to be like. Following beauty trends can be exhausting, and that’s why we believe we should be celebrating our own individual beauty.
To help with these times of isolation and confusion, we have put together some top tips to help ease your days, or to practice to help increase your self esteem and emotional wellbeing.
Recognize that nobody is perfect.
Trying to strive for perfection will only cause disappointment in the end, realising that no one on this planet is perfect, everyone edits, everyone poses and everyone wants to portray the best self image that they can.
Give compliments and also receive them.
Giving one compliment a day can change someone’s mood, only achieving happiness. However, we feel okay most of the time giving compliments, but we also need to learn how to take them. Believe the compliment and appreciate your own beauty.
Enjoy the freedom.
Many of us have been finding it strange and hard to adapt to normal ‘ish’ life again. But we need to make the most of the time we have lost, therefore getting out in the fresh air, going on group walks or group exercise classes, spending time with loved ones and friends, can immediately boost your mood. Lockdown may have also caused some of us to have a lot of time to think, so start that hobby you never had time for. Or apply for that job you thought you couldn’t get. Let your creativity and drive be free.
Don’t allow other people’s judgements to affect you.
You are never going to please everyone. So if you like something, or want something, go for it. Just because they don’t like it, doesn’t mean you don’t have too either. The more we let go of other people’s criticisms and judgements the happier we will be with ourselves as we only focus on what we want.
Talk.
Every single person is struggling in some form. So don’t hold emotions in, if you trust a family member, or you seek professional advice, just remember that everything you say, they have heard before. You’re not abnormal, nor strange, you’re someone, like a lot of people, who may need to talk out whatever you are feeling.
We hope these tips have given some of you a boost of self confidence, and to give yourself a break! Life is hard, and we need to be kind to ourselves. We are always here to support our patients throughout everything.
